Right to Sustainable Livelihoods

Our Commitment: Securing the Right to Sustainable Livelihoods

At Magan Foundation, we affirm that every Somali deserves the chance to earn a dignified living, sustain their families, and participate as equal citizens in shaping their communities. Livelihoods are more than income — they represent dignity, resilience, and independence.

By advancing the right to sustainable livelihoods, our mission is to tackle poverty and reduce vulnerability across Somalia through fair, inclusive, and lasting economic opportunities. We place particular emphasis on empowering women, youth, displaced people, and returnees, supporting them to rebuild stability and restore hope.

Our Strategy: Connecting Skills to Opportunities

We believe education should lead to meaningful livelihoods. That is why our programs focus on transforming learning into practical opportunities by:

  • Skills and Vocational Training: Delivering training that matches labor market demands, equipping young people with the tools to secure work or start small enterprises. We collaborate closely with community leaders, trainers, and employers to ensure real impact.
  • Enterprise and Cooperative Development: Enabling individuals and groups — especially women and marginalized communities — to build businesses, access finance, and strengthen their technical and management skills. We also help connect them to markets and business networks.
  • Career Support and Job Matching: Providing guidance, mentorship, and placement services to ease the transition from education into decent employment, particularly for Somalia’s youth.

Building Pathways to Dignified Livelihoods

  • Women’s Economic Inclusion: We work to expand women’s role in entrepreneurship and local economies, knowing that empowered women strengthen families and communities.
  • Youth Opportunities: With Somalia’s youthful population, we invest in programs that prepare young people to access dignified jobs and contribute to social stability and development.
  • Rural and Urban Livelihoods: We support farming families with food security, agriculture, and market access while also creating space for urban women and youth to thrive in entrepreneurship and vocational trades.

Driving Inclusive and Resilient Growth

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) power most of Somalia’s economy. Magan Foundation supports this sector to grow stronger and more inclusive by linking businesses, community groups, and institutions. Our aim is to build sustainable enterprises that create long-term jobs and drive economic resilience.

Restoring Livelihoods in Times of Crisis

When drought, displacement, or conflict disrupts lives, Magan Foundation acts quickly to help families recover. We provide cash assistance, skills re-training, and livelihood starter kits so displaced people, returnees, and vulnerable communities can rebuild with dignity and stability.
