Right to Education

Our Commitment: The Right to Quality Education

At Magan Foundation, we believe education is a fundamental human right and the most powerful tool for peace, stability, and sustainable development. In Somalia, where many children and youth continue to face barriers to learning, we are working to ensure that education is safe, inclusive, and accessible for all.

Our ongoing efforts are centered on creating opportunities for vulnerable children and youth—particularly girls, displaced families, and persons with disabilities—to learn and thrive. We see schools not just as classrooms, but as safe spaces that protect learners from exploitation while preparing them for a brighter future.

Our Approach: Building Sustainable Pathways to Learning

We are currently laying the foundations for long-term, systemic impact in Somalia’s education sector. Our approach combines immediate interventions with sustainable solutions:

  • Financial and Social Support: We are supporting learners through scholarships and targeted assistance to reduce economic barriers. Our focus is on the most vulnerable, including girls and displaced children, to ensure no one is left behind.
  • Safe and Resilient Learning Environments: We are engaging communities in the rehabilitation of schools and the development of safe, disaster-resilient classrooms that promote effective learning.
  • Teacher Empowerment: We are investing in teacher training and capacity building. Through mentorship and innovative digital support systems, we are working to strengthen educators’ ability to deliver quality, learner-centered education.
  • Preparing Learners for the Future: We are establishing linkages between education and livelihoods. Career guidance, life skills, and vocational training are being integrated to equip young people with practical skills relevant to the Somali labor market.

Our Core Program Areas

  • Education in Emergencies: We are already working with communities affected by drought and displacement to ensure children continue their education. This includes temporary learning spaces, school rehabilitation, and psychosocial support.
  • Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET): We are developing partnerships with Somali businesses and industries to provide hands-on training opportunities, ensuring youth gain marketable skills and employment pathways.
  • Education Sector Development: We are collaborating with education authorities to contribute to policies and systems that make education inclusive and sustainable. This includes supporting teacher development, strengthening school management, and advancing guidance and counseling frameworks.
